THE STARTUP
bam•bu bicycles designs and handcrafts premium bamboo bicycles that combine sustainability, performance, and contemporary design. Each frame is built from naturally selected bamboo, offering a unique blend of strength, comfort, and vibration absorption. We create custom-made bicycles and develop curated cycling experiences that highlight the cultural and natural heritage of the Bairrada region. As both a manufacturer and tourism operator, bam•bu bicycles promotes slow tourism, local craftsmanship, and environmentally conscious mobility. Our mission is to inspire meaningful connections between people, nature, and places, one ride at a time.

Joana Saavedra
Joana Saavedra is the co-founder of bam•bu bicycles, where she combines creativity, sustainability and business development to promote bamboo as a regenerative, high-performance material for mobility and design. With international experience across Spain, Mexico, the Netherlands and China, she leads brand strategy and tourism innovation, creating cycling experiences that connect craftsmanship, culture and nature. Joana is also co-founder and Vice-President of the Iberian Bamboo Association and a European Climate Pact Ambassador, actively advocating for bamboo’s potential in sustainable industries, and community-centered tourism.
